Wow,Hickey is certainly surly! I have some more to think about w/ the other paper...will post report shortly. One striking thing, he seemed to make alot of the folks who thought they were ultra-liberal, shrink back into a conservative corner. He definitely stirred things up! The talk reminds me alot of the writing going on at http:\\joaap.org. More later! Terri
In a way, I think Hickey is like an escapee from Hogwarts School for Sorcery - he has tremendous powers of analysis and persuasion but he oftne uses them for mischief. In that way, he might be good - preventing his audience from wallowing in liberal (or any other form of) complacency, but one sometimes feels that he's having too much fun convincing the world that no one thought about beauty after December 31, 1899, or that Norman Rockwell was an important proto-conceptual artist, or whatever he's capable of dreaming up this month. I look forward to your reflections on the lecture - post them in a new post eo everyone can see.
